Community unites for Ramadan celebration in Ridgeway
Joburg South Constituency hosts successful mass iftar at Hoërskool President High School
The Joburg South Constituency held its mass iftar on March 14 at Hoërskool President High School in Ridgeway, drawing community members to break their Ramadan fast together.
The event brought residents together to join in the spirit of unity and celebration. Attendees participated in the iftar, sharing traditional meals like chicken biryani and desserts like soji.

Prayers were also shared in the school’s hall.
The gathering was coordinated by Ward 125 Clr Matsobane Sekhu and Member of Parliament Sergio Dos Santos, who addressed the crowd after the iftar meal with gratitude for the community’s involvement.

“We want to thank all those in attendance for making this such a successful occasion,” said Dos Santos
The attendees enjoyed the food and great company as they interacted with one another. Old friends were reunited, and new friendships began as community and unity prevailed.
The fast during the month of Ramadan is observed by many Joburg south residents, and they were honoured with the feast.
Johannesburg mayoral candidate Helen Zille also attended the iftar to show her support.

“This is an amazing experience for me. I am so happy to be back here in Joburg south. The community is so diverse and dedicated to supporting one another,“ said Zille.
“We have so much to be grateful for in these tough times, and these moments remind me of that,” she continued.

The successful mass iftar reinforced community bonds in Joburg South and highlighted the constituency’s commitment to inclusive cultural celebrations.
