Mondeor Grade 2 learner rape case sees court setback over profile issues

Dalmondeor Primary School employee remains in custody as bail hearing postponed to July 3

A 31-year-old man, employed as a maintenance worker at Dalmondeor Primary School in Mondeor, has been arrested in connection with allegations of rape involving a Grade Two learner at the school.

The incident reportedly occurred on May 21 on the school premises.

The case resumed at the Booysens Magistrate’s Court on June 19, but proceedings were delayed due to the accused’s profile not being compiled correctly.

Magistrate Mashitse expressed concern over the lengthy delay in completing the profile, which was initially requested to verify the accused’s status as a potential foreign national and to check if he was wanted for other crimes.

“Was the profile not completed? Why not? It has now been going on for a month, and a formal bail application has not been made for the accused. The profile must be completed as the ID was provided,” said Mashitse.

The legal aid attorney, Mr Ramshiya, was criticised for being unprepared and lacking knowledge about the incomplete profile. Magistrate Mashitse ordered the profile to be completed before setting a date for the bail application, stating, “Give me a completed profile, and we will discuss the bail application.”

After the profile was completed, the matter of a formal bail application was addressed.

Magistrate Mashitse remanded the case to July 3, stating, “At the next date, I want a bail application to be submitted, and we will continue from there.”

The case will resume on July 3.
