Your kind actions touched me deeply

I would like to say thank you to Katlego, who sells newspapers at the intersection of Columbine Avenue and Maritz Street North, Suideroord.

When we got back from work recently we realised that our dog, Roxy, a pit bull, was missing. Roxy has been part of our family for the past nine years and she has grown up with our kids since the day they were born.

Still in absolute shock we all jumped into the car and drove street after street looking for her, with the kids hanging out of the car windows calling her name. We stopped at every garage asking if the petrol attendants had not perhaps seen her running around.  No luck, we couldn’t find her.

We then got in contact with a lady by the name of Michelle Pelser from the community forum and asked her to please publish our missing dog’s information on the available community networks.

The next morning on our way to work and school we stopped at the traffic lights at Columbine Avenue and Maritz Street North and asked our newspaper guy (Katlego) if he had seen our dog running around. Without hesitation he explained to us where she was.

We dropped the kids at school and came back and asked him if he would take us to where she was. Again, with him knowing he had to sell his newspapers until they were finished, he said yes, he will accompany us.

One of his friends, who also sells newspapers at the Southgate intersection, Thabang, kept our dog safe at his home. I must mention these guys made a notice board with the details of our lost dog, hoping someone would claim her back.

Animal lovers will know the stress we went through, even though it was just for one night, not knowing where our Roxy was. But to find her the way we did and for these two young men that went out of their way to help us, really touched me deeply.

When we offered them money for all their help, they replied by saying they do not expect anything in return and they are both just glad we found our dog.

I am asking the community, if you do get to pass these guys where they sell their newspapers, please just stop, and say thank you to them for what they did for us.
