The increased number of messages sent out daily on local forums regarding vastly increased criminal incidents in our area must make all residents realise the time has come for us to take a different approach to protecting our families and homes.
Mondeor Police do a good job, but as they are clearly understaffed they simply cannot respond timeously to all incidents. Armed reaction companies do not patrol and often only respond a short while later after an incident.
It is time to look at other solutions such as each household paying a monthly amount of money to engage a private force to patrol our streets or we should buy drones and pay for them to be monitored. Permission to use drones will have to be obtained from Civil Aviation. I am not sure if they would be allowed at all for commercial purposes, but they should be.
Otherwise, if 2 000 households paid R400 per month there would be an amount of R800 000 per month to use to provide regular patrols.
We have no protection at present. How many more people must be attacked, maimed, robbed, traumatised or killed in our area before we band together and greatly improve our situation?
Perhaps the armed reaction companies could come up with a better solution than what I am suggesting.
