The Forever Resorts Loskop Series, comprising the traditional Loskop marathon and the 21.1km Forever Resorts Wild Challenge, is taking place on Saturday April 22.
This year marks the 31st Loskop Ultra Marathon and the 11th run of the Wild Challenge.
The 50km Loskop marathon is a favourite among seasoned roadrunning athletes and also a Comrades Marathon qualifying event. The race, which starts at 06:00 at the Steve Tshwete Municipal Buildings in Middelburg, begins in the highveld at an altitude of 1 540 metres above sea level and ends in the lowveld at an altitude of 930m.
The 21.1km Forever Resorts Wild Challenge starts at 06:30 and will be run through the scenic Loskopdam Nature Reserve.
Entries close on March 4 and athletes can either enter online at www.loskopmarathon.co.za or submit an entry form directly to the race administration office. (Contact 013 2432683 or 064 771 5967 or 064 772 9183).
The 4.9km Rhino fun run is also presented again this year. This family fun run takes place on the same day, from the starting point of the 21.1km Wild Challenge (near the dam wall). This unique run will take place along the dam towards Loskopdam, a Forever Resort. Fun run entries can be done on race day at the start, at R35 each. Proceeds will contribute towards the “Friends of Loskop Conservation Fund”. No prize-money will be awarded, but all finishers will receive a medal. Walkers are also welcome. The fun run starts at 06:45.
