‘Smash’ brings home the African Boxing Union title
After smashing her opponent in the boxing ring, Smangele Hadebe ‘Smash’ walked away victorious after her big fight on February 24 as she was up against Halima Vunjabei.
Smangele Hadebe’s many hours of preparation paid off as she is now the new African Boxing Union flyweight titleholder.
Fondly known as Smash, Hadebe brought home the title after going head-to-head with Halima Vunjabei on February 24 at the ESPN headquarters.
She boasts a record of 12 wins, three losses and two draws.
During her previous interview, the Walkerville boxer said this fight meant a lot to her as she is at the peak of her career.
According to Hadebe, her opponent showed heart by standing till the last round even when she could not see with one eye.

“I’m excited to be the winner. I thank God for everything. It was a tough fight but I wish the referee had stopped the fight earlier as my opponent’s eye swelled up in the first round,” she said.
She has now improved in the rankings to fight for the World Boxing Council title.
“We are looking to defend the ABU title a couple of times before gunning for another belt. I haven’t rested after my last fight because you never know when the next opportunity will be. I have to stay fit,” said Hadebe.
She thanked ESPN for the opportunity, her manager Colleen McAusland and her sponsors, Brawlgear, Dent Doctor, RDG and Human Nutrition.
