Baseball is a team sport involving two teams consisting of nine players. It is divided into nine innings, each of which consists of two halves.

The top half of an inning consists of one team batting and attempting to score runs, while the bottom half features defensive play by the other team. In the bottom half, the teams switch places. The team with the most runs wins the game after the innings.

A diamond-shaped playing field is used for the game, with home plate, first base, second base, and third base forming the four corners. Pitchers stand on the pitcher’s mound in the middle of the infield to pitch the ball to batters. In baseball, the outfield is the area between the first and third baselines beyond the infield.

During an inning, the defensive team’s pitcher throws the ball to the offensive team’s hitter at home plate. To run around the bases, the batter tries to hit the ball with the bat out of reach of the defensive players in the field.

A run is scored if he returns to home plate after rounding the bases. If the batter catches the ball before reaching first base, or if the ball can be thrown to first base before he reaches the base, the batter is out.

Strikeouts or failure to hit the ball three times after three good pitches also put a batter out. After three outs, an offensive team’s time at bat is over.
