Blackball South Africa rakes in 32 medals

Blackball South Africa is the recognised body for the sport of blackball in South Africa and a member of the IOC via a continental membership with the All Africa Pool Association and the world body, Blackball International.
The South African team travelled 7 000km to attend the Blackball World Championships from October 8 to15 in Tangier, Morocco.
They competed in seven categories and brought home 32 medals – 11 gold, 13 silver and eight bronze.
Other countries that participated were Morocco, England, Australia, Spain, Ireland, Zambia, Tunisia and USA.
“A huge shout-out goes to our local hero Senzo Gumede from Flames Pub and Grill, Primrose, who is the new men’s single champion. Senzo is training a youth group at Flames,” said Jolanda Saayman, PRO of Blackball Gauteng.
“Who’s the killer now? Gumede, our own ‘diesel engine’, proved that through hard work, dedication and humbleness you can become the world champion. We are extremely proud of your excellent achievement and the humble manner in which you represented South Africa,” said Basil Munsamy, the president of Blackball Gauteng.
Munsamy achieved third place in the master division, runner-up in the doubles and bronze in the team event.
“This is also the first time that father and son attended a world championship together. Alonso Munsamy, who was also awarded Mr Alberton High, said it was a great life experience and that he just missed home cooking.”
Munsamy said he hopes Blackball will get better recognition now and prove that BSA can send their players to world events and bring back gold to South Africa.
