Glenbrack High School wins big in first rugby tournaments

After the long-awaited dream of initiating a rugby team, Glenbrack High School finally launched its rugby team. Both school teams participated in recent tournaments and did exceptionally well.

For the first time in history, Glenbrack High School established a school rugby team while finally presenting long awaiting individuals with the opportunity to participate in the sport.

Educator Kulani Baloyi and Cwenga Mtalana are the coaches of the rugby team and have managed to form a boys and a girls team.

The teams recently participated in tournaments where they ended up in prize-winning positions.

The boys’ participation in the U19 Valke League was a huge success, though they narrowly lost to Hoërskool Heilbron in the semifinals. Three boys were selected for the Valke U15 team that competed in the national tournament (Iqhawe Week).

Noluthando Sidu, Keletso Masola, Cwenga Mtalana(coach), Oarabile Mokwatsi, Nhlanhla Khumalo, Kulani Baloyi(Coach) and Phetheho Moloi in Welkom, Free State.

The girls’ team performed incredibly well, going undefeated the entire season and convincingly defeating schools including Bracken High School, Hoërskool Suiderlig, and Royal Schools.

Unarine Ngwana represented Valke U15 girls as well as Ekurhuleni in the OR Tambo Soncini Games.

Thirteen girls were selected for the Valke provincial teams, which competed in the National U18 and U16 Week in Welkom as well as the Interprovincial Games in Nigel, where the U16 team, which included eight Glenbrack High School learners, won the competition.

Resonze McLare, Ayanda Lekgema and Lwazi Radebe played in the U15 national tournament.

The school is looking forward to nurturing the sport while tightening the talent within the school learners.
