WATCH: Boxing fights gender-based violence
The final exhibition boxing tournament was well supported at Booysens Boxing Club.
The Ultimate Legend Challenge on May 18 was a success, with action packed fights at the full Booysens Boxing Club.
One organiser, Akira Solomon from Second Out Events, thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the event. “This is my final exhibition boxing tournament.
“The event is in aid of the fight against gender-based violence and funds raised will be donated to Frida Hartley Shelter,” she said.

Jodi Solomon and celebrity judge Ashleigh Ogle echoed messages of support. The boxing event was mainly to raise funds for the Frida Hartley Shelter for homeless women and children and awareness around gender-based violence.
In a video played at the event, personal trainer Candice de Mendonca said as a woman living in South Africa, she wrote a poem during Covid because a young girl was raped, beaten, mistreated. The only reason people discovered her body was the odour of decomposition.

“Her story hit me hard, and I felt I needed to write a poem based on GBV in South Africa.
“I think we need brothers, fathers, uncles and sons in our corner on our side and we need to raise better men,” she said.
The sponsors of the event included The Legend Barbershop (main), SheduPay and Brawl Gear. The presence of South African songwriter and rapper Siyabonga Nene, known professionally as Big Zulu, graced the event.
