Looking back at the best sport achievements of 2024
Take a look back at some sporting highlights from January till June.
January:
• Malijka secures IBO title: Ricardo Mlijeka won the International Boxing title at the Golden Gloves promotion tournament.
• Gymnasts shine during competitions: Girls from Resilience Gymnastics Club displayed their skills at the General Gauteng District and the SA nationals.
• Mutetwa called up for Davis Cup: Mutetwa left SA to pursue tennis in the USA. He played for Lewis University in Chicago which resulted in him getting call-up to represent Zimbabwe at the Davis Cup.
• Luan receives motocross SA colours: Luan Jordaan, an eight-year-old received his protea SA colours for Motocross.

February:
• Linhill Celtic FC trio off to Sundowns: Three Linhill Celtic players, Mervedi Matu, Joshua Otu and Nigel Dundawa joined the U11 team of Mamelodi Sundowns.
• Cricketer excited to play for his country: Dwen Marias gets a call up for the Proteas.
• Sportsman takes up bowling: Gavin Kilpatrick, a visually impaired athlete who won a bronze medal at the 2008 Paralympics took up bowls and won his first novice tournament.

March:
• Macmillan smashes the longest drive: Campbell Macmillan won the men’s open final and won the African long drive championship.
• Dojo brings home several medals: Spartans Karate dojo won big at the Karate Federations Provincial Championship. The dojo secured three gold, nine silver and seven bronze medals.

April:
• Baseballers in national champs: Southern Stars Baseball club made history by competing in the national baseball championships.
• Cyclists excel at Emperors Race: Trio Xander Erasmus, Matthew Horne and Stiaan Landsberg excelled in the 98km Emperors Palace Road Classic race.

May:
• Turffontein Primary School won the 9th annual Horizon High School soccer tournament.

June:
• Tristan is selected for provincial team: Triston Kirkwood was selected for the Gauteng provincial hockey team in the U18 category for boys.
• Joburg South basketball team emerges victorious: Southside Stormers basketball club U19 won the TUT activation 3 on 3 tournament.
