The Diversity High School football and netball teams competed in a school sports tournament hosted by Hyde Park High on September 20.
The netball team secured an impressive third-place finish, while the football team reached the final against Alexandre High School.
In the final, Diversity High’s football team fought hard but ultimately lost to Alexandre High in a penalty shoot-out, ending the match in a narrow defeat.

Despite not winning the tournament, several players were recognised for their outstanding performances. Team captain Sihle Khumalo impressed with his leadership, inspiring his teammates. Yolanda Khumalo was awarded Best Player, and Teboho Ramaru received the Best Goalkeeper award. All three were selected for trials with professional side Chippa United.

The team’s journey to the final was equally impressive, with draws against The Hill High (0–0) and Greenside High (1–1), followed by a 2–0 victory over Hyde Park High in the semi-finals.

Coach Shiko Lawrence Thantsha expressed pride in his players’ efforts, praising their skill and commitment.
“The boys played so well. They displayed so much talent, which is why they were recognised for their performances. Well done to the girls’ netball team as well – they need to go for gold next year. Next year will be my last year as I will be retiring, so the boys need to go one step further and win,” said Thantsha.
