Their teacher and mentor, Joyce Delport, said the hip-hop and amapiano dancers have worked their way to the top through dedication and determination.

“They won all the preliminary rounds – from district to provincial, then national – and now they’ve made it to the international level,” she said. “Each dancer needs R6 900, which covers the four-day stay, including three meals per day and onboard activities.

“We’re asking the community to help us. Every little bit counts, no matter how small the contribution. The school can only pay for registration, but many of the parents are unemployed and can’t afford the full cost.

“We’d also love to receive assistance with tracksuits for the trip. The school will continue with other fundraising initiatives to help raise the funds. A sponsorship letter is available for anyone willing to assist. The funds are needed by the end of December,” Delport added.

She described the dancers as passionate and hardworking young people who find purpose and joy through their art.

“This is their dream, and they’re determined to make it a reality. Dancing helps them cope with challenges they face at home while keeping a healthy balance with their academics. Their different backgrounds motivate them to do even better – for them, this is more than just dance,” she said.
