Watch: Man in Isuzu powers through deep waters in eMalahleni

A man’s bold drive through a flooded eMalahleni road in his Isuzu bakkie has left social media amazed and divided.

Social media is buzzing after a man’s daring deep water adventure – not in the sea, but rather through the flooded R545 in eMalahleni.

In a video published on Witbank News’ TikTok channel, an Isuzu bakkie towing a boat can be seen powering through the water.

The video, which has been viewed over 383 000 times, has attracted nearly 200 comments. While some have questioned why the man took such a risk, others praised the capabilities of his bakkie.

Watch the video:

The driver of the bakkie, JP Steenkamp, spoke to Witbank News about what transpired on Sunday. He said that he and his daughter, Chinique, went fishing.

“We caught about eight [fish] when the weather suddenly picked up. On the way back, we encountered the water under the bridge and pushed through, because an Isuzu can,” he said proudly.

Steenkamp told the newspaper that he drove through the water twice. The first time was to deliver the fish they had caught to a man on the other side, who took the video. This man can be heard saying: “Dis my vriend daai; hy bring my vis daai ene,” which translates to, “He is my friend, he is bringing me fish.”

Steenkamp made the second trip to return to their intended route.

He shared another video that was taken by his daughter from inside the bakkie:

While Steenkamp safely navigated the flooded road, authorities regularly remind motorists to avoid driving through flooded streets, deep pools of water or overflowing rivers.
