In love with Naz Holland
Douglasdale's Naz Holland is quite a force, with angelic vocal chords to boot.
The singing sensation started her journey into the limelight in 2002 when she entered Coca-Cola Popstars, at the behest of her mother.
“I was reluctant to enter the competition, but eventually I agreed,” she said.
During the competition the songstress was surprised each time she’d make it through a round, and ended up being selected as a member of Afro Z. The group was signed to Virgin Records South Africa, and at the peak of their success gave Holland exposure to corporate and theatre industries as she climbed the ladder of success.
This all helped her to be able to pursue a solo career when the group split, while honing her talent.
Holland said she was inspired to sing after being introduced to the Taliep Peterson stage sensation District Six. With the soundtrack ringing in her ears she vowed to sing professionally one day.
At age nine she started to belt out tunes. “My parents couldn’t shut me up,” quipped Holland.
As a child the talented singer performed in a variety of shows in and around her community.
In 2008 Holland met her husband, saxophonist Dave Holland, at the Barnyard Theatre in Durban.
They’ve been married for six years, living happily with their two sons.
The talented songstress has been involved in productions such as Concert in the Park with the Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and Noot vir Noot.
So far she has not released an album but has released singles such as Since love became war.
On 14 February Holland will be part of My Big Band Valentine.
Audiences can enjoy classic renditions of favourite love songs with the world class 17-piece Johannesburg Big Band performing live.
