Fun in the winter sun at Norscot Manor

NORSCOT – It was difficult to tell who had the most fun at Norscot Manor recently – was it was the children attending the fun walk, or the parents participating in the potjie competition?

The non-profit organisation, Friends of Norscot, held the family fun day in conjunction with Norscot Primary School, with the organisation heading the family fun walk and the school organising the tasty potjiekos competition.

“It was a great day, really enjoyed by all, and again it brought the community together for the kids,” said organisation secretary, Jo Warden. “Thanks to the Friends of Norscot committee who made the arrangements and pulled off yet another very successful community event. Special thanks to RSS Security and Medical for their support and participation, they gave the parents real peace of mind.”

Fiona Purchase took the first prize after the walk for doing 16 laps around the manor. Sejaj Maharaj took second place for doing 14 laps, and Caitlin Allan took third place for doing 12 laps. Erin van Zyl and Hayden Mathieson took the prize for the most enthusiastic team; and finally, one-year-old Jess Redfern won the coveted cutest/wackiest outfit.

Norscot Primary School principal, Mandy Bouwer, explained that the potjie competition was held to celebrate the school’s 10th year running after it was opened in June 2005.

“The competition was held in order for us to raise funds for the school so that we can improve our recreational centre. Funds will also go to the various outreach programmes we run at the school,” said Bouwer. “Moreover, we do this for our Norscot community as we like to bring them together so the parents, teachers and children can all get to know each other.”

The school would also like to congratulate the potjie competition winners, Jeanne Opperman and Simoné Denbury, who took first place for their delectable wine and rosemary-infused lamb; and runner-up Justin Seach, who cooked a delicious prawn curry.
