Five arrested in Fourways after car chase and shootout

FOURWAYS - Five suspects were arrested and one seriously injured after a police chase and shootout in Fourways at 9.30pm on 5 December.

According to Warrant officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for the Douglasdale police, the suspects were first spotted in Hillbrow after a police van following the suspects’ car noticed an incorrect registration number on the car, and tried to stop the vehicle.

When the suspects refused to stop, a chase and shootout ensued until the suspects’ car was cornered on Fourways Boulevard.

One suspect is currently in hospital under police guard.

Muthan confirmed that five unlicensed fire arms were recovered.
