Robbers impersonate police

FOURWAYS – DOUGLASDALE police are on the lookout for three suspects linked to a case of robbery that occurred on the 15 March in the Fourways area.

Catherine Magampa, a 68-year-old woman who lives in the area, alleged that she was approached by three men driving in a white car while she was waiting for a taxi on the corner of Short Street to get home.

Magampa said, “Three men driving in a white car stopped and asked me if I needed assistance, then offered to drop me off at home.

“I trusted the men as the driver was wearing a police uniform and even produced his card when I asked for it.”

Once she was in the vehicle, the men asked Magampa how much money she had withdrawn from the bank and how much money she had in her bank account.

Magampa refused to answer and at that point started screaming, begging the suspects to drop her off at the Douglasdale Police Station.

The men continued driving and one suspect seated at the back with Magampa allegedly started to throttle her to force her to keep quiet.

The suspects then took R2 500 which she had withdrawn earlier that day, her glasses, bank card and shoes before dropping her off at a secluded area in Weltevreden Park.

Magampa was later assisted by a passerby who dropped her off at Northgate Mall where she blocked her bank card.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for Douglasdale Police Station confirmed that a case of robbery, impersonating a police officer and abduction had been opened.
