MIDRAND – Here are five crimes reported in the Midrand areas covered by the Fourways Review.

The Midrand Sector 4 policing precinct includes Blue Hills, Glenferness, Barbarque Downs and Kyalami areas, all suburbs which fall under the Fourways Review distribution area.

Here are five crime incidents from these areas which have been reported to the Midrand Police Station between 15 and 27 January, as supplied by Sergeant Matome Tlamela, spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station.

Man’s car raided during gym session

On 15 January a case of theft out of a motor vehicle was reported. A motorist was at a gym in the Kyalami area in the evening. When he returned to the vehicle about an hour later, he discovered that one of the doors had been tampered with and items including USB cables, cash and a transmitter (worth about R3 580) had been taken. No arrests have been made.

Passenger robbed at traffic lights

On 17 January a case of common robbery was reported. Two work colleagues had stopped at a robot on Summit Road at about 8.45am and were waiting for the traffic lights to change. The passenger had his cell phone in his hands when an unidentified man grabbed the phone through the open window and ran off. The passenger told the police he is unable to identify the suspect as everything happened so fast.

Car stolen off Kyalami street

On 20 January a case of theft of a motor vehicle was reported. A man parked his white Toyota Hilux on a Kyalami street, checking that all the vehicle’s doors and windows were secured before leaving it. When he returned to the parking spot some time later, his vehicle was missing. The police are still investigating the incident but hope to arrest those responsible and recover the car.

Caught with employer’s valuables

On 24 January an arrest was made on suspicion of the possession of stolen items. A Midrand police officer was called to a housing complex in the Kyalami area. Once there, he was told by the complex manager that a domestic worker working in the complex had been discovered in possession of ‘stolen property’. The domestic worker had an accomplice who allegedly broke into her employer’s safe and stole jewellery, documents and foreign currency. She was arrested and will appear in court on a charge of possessing the goods.

Domestic worker in trouble for stealing

On 27 January a case of theft was reported. A woman returned to her house on Summit Road, Kyalami to find that her bedroom had been disturbed, almost as if someone had been searching in it, and money kept there had gone missing. She called her domestic worker to ask what happened, and the worker said she had searched the room for headache tablets and did not deny taking the cash.
