Fourways Review readers show they care for the environment
FOURWAYS – We highlight five front-page stories which focus on the environment.
Throughout the year, Fourways Review readers have shown that they really care about the environment and the developments in their communities. We rounded up a list of our front-page stories this year that focused on environmental concerns.
1. Urban forest in jeopardy
The Fourways Review got the privilege of attending a tree walk in Glenferness hosted by the Greater Kyalami Conservancy. Anton Moller of Arbor Africa shared his specialist knowledge of tree care and taught Kyalami residents how to identify trees infected with shot hole borer, which has affected trees in eight of the nine provinces around South Africa. 2. Let’s all play our part
Monthly A Re Sebetseng clean-ups have continued to grow since the initiative was first started two years ago. Community members take the time every third Saturday of the month to help clean up their neighbourhoods. Read more here:
3. Wildfire hits wildlife
A fire at the road reserve near the corner of Galanthas and Dahlia roads impacted local wildlife. Local organisation Friends of Free Wildlife stepped in to assist the animals hurt. It is believed the fire was caused by someone who had tried to burn their refuse and the community was urged to report anyone who illegally dumps their refuse or starts a fire. Read more here:
4. Deppe calls for Jukskei clean-up team
Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe called on local residents to join a Jukskei River clean-up committee. Whenever there are heavy rains in the area it causes a build-up of rubbish in the river which needs to be consistently cleaned. Read more here:
5. Sewage woes in Fourways flow
Residents around the Fourways Mall area were finally able to breathe again after a sewage spill in the area was addressed. The leak began in mid-December last year when ongoing construction at the mall led to a sewerage pipe being damaged by contractors working in the area. Read more here:
