Officers arrest more than 100 people

DOUGLASDALE – Multiple weekend operations saw suspects arrested for a number of crimes by police and Metro police.


On the weekend of 28 to 30 May, officers of the Johannesburg West sub-district, which includes Douglasdale Police Station and Diepsloot Police Station, conducted various operations in the area which saw 93 suspects arrested.

Spokesperson for the Douglasdale police, Captain Mpho Tshetlhane detailed the crimes the suspects were arrested for.

“The crimes ranged from murder, rape, contravention of Disaster Management [Act], assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, common assault, possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle, drunk driving, possession of car jamming device, theft, dealing in liquor without a licence, reckless and negligent driving, and shoplifting,” she said.

On the same weekend, Douglasdale police conducted joint operations in the area together with Metro police which saw 33 suspects arrested.

According to Tshetlhane, the crimes included rape, human trafficking, malicious damage to property, assault common, dealing in liquor without a licence, reckless and negligent driving, theft, contempt of court, shoplifting and driving under the influence of liquor.

She said the police would continue with these operations to ensure that the community of Douglasdale was safe.

She added that all the suspects arrested would appear in either the Randburg Magistrates’ Court or the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court soon.
