Police find abandoned car with rifle inside in Waterfall

MIDRAND – Midrand Police recovered an AK47 riffle in an abandoned vehicle left idling in Waterfall on 1 July.


Officers of Midrand Police Station recovered an AK47 rifle in an abandoned vehicle that had been left idling in Waterfall on July 1.

According to the Midrand Police Station spokesperson, Constable Eliot Mabulane, the police came across the abandoned vehicle on the corner of Ridge Road and Pretorius Road in Waterfall while on a routine patrol.

Mabulane said the car was left idling near a car dealership and an investigation was still underway to identify who the owner of the vehicle was as well as the possible owner of the firearm.

“The Midrand Police Station management applauds members for being cautious and vigilant on the patrols while looking out for any level of criminality. Our appreciation goes to Hawkeye Security for swiftly responding and giving the members the backup. A big thank you to all involved in fighting crime in Midrand. That includes the Community Police Forum and community patrollers.

“We have to be vigilant and safe while enforcing the law and keep our community safe,” concluded Mabulane.
