Learners from Crawford International Lonehill gathered to receive and celebrate their Independent Examination Board (IEB) results on January 19.

The school had rejoiced at their Class of 2021 statistics for the year, with a 100% pass rate and 2.7 distinctions per matriculant.
Dux scholar recipient of 2021 and hopeful actuarial scientist, Wanjiku Ndegwa expressed happiness after receiving her marks. “I’m thankful for all the hard work, and for the support I had from loved ones and my teachers for all their help. I’m still undecided on where to go, but I want to study actuarial sciences,” she said.

“Studying during the pandemic was difficult. At some point it didn’t even feel real, but we had the necessary support in place from the teachers. I’d advise current Grade 12s to stay focused, but not to take everything so serious. You still need to have fun, but be safe.”

Tamara Nel, head of academics at the school, said the duration of teaching online with the pandemic at the helm was difficult. “We are absolutely thrilled with the results. We were very anxious about two years of Covid and what that was going to mean. Teaching during that time was very hard. New experiences for both the learners and staff in terms of educating means we don’t know if we’re doing it right.”

Managing director of the Crawford International Schools, Dr Siza Majola, agreed with Nel’s statements on the work achieved by the learners. “The children’s brilliance is coming through. Their teachers also had a massive role to play in these amazing results. We were initially concerned with the transition to online learning for this group, but their brilliance came through. There was a lot of support put in place for them to do well,” she said.
