Man appears in court for murder and attempted murder

Police were alerted to the incident and they discovered the deceased had sustained a bullet wound to his head and was certified dead on the scene.

A 29-year-old man appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on May 12 on charges of murder and attempted murder.

It is alleged on May 8, the suspect arrived at a tavern in Kya Sands when an argument ensued between him and another 29-year-old patron.
“The suspect fired a gunshot and missed the [intended] victim, fatally wounding a 39-year-old man who was also a patron.
“After all patrons fled the scene, it was then that the body of the deceased was found lying on the floor,” said Captain Mpho Tshetlhane, spokesperson of Douglasdale police.

Police were alerted to the incident and they discovered the deceased had sustained a bullet wound to his head and was certified dead on the scene.
Thorough police investigation by the tracing team led to the arrest of the suspect and after appearing in court, he was remanded in custody. Investigations were still ongoing.

Douglasdale Police Station Commander Brigadier Veeshani Arikum said, “Thank you to the commitment and dedication of the detective members who arrested the suspect. Your dedication and commitment do not go unnoticed.”
