Art exhibition brings French flair to Chartwell
From portraits to abstract paintings, works done by artist Charlene Negus were displayed in Chartwell.
Community members and local residents were treated to an art exhibition that presented a French twist on July 2 at a country house in Chartwell thanks to a Rivonia-based artist.

Charlene Negus displayed her portrait painting and abstract art pieces for the public to view and buy.
Attendees got to enjoy the evening with dinner, and a performance by singer Helena Hettema who serenaded the crowd in a number of languages including Afrikaans, English and French.

Negus was delighted at the turnout for her exhibition, and more so that a number of attendees bought her artwork.
“It has been the most wonderful success with an amazing atmosphere as well. There was a relaxed feeling with good food and music arranged as well, I think tonight went really well,” she said.

The Rivonia-based artist said the country house was chosen for its European feel, making one feel as if they had travelled to either Greece, Italy or France.

With this being the first exhibition she had ever hosted, she was looking forward to hosting another event in the future to even feature more artists and singers.
“This is the beginning of events like this in the Fourways area. I’ve pinpointed a number of potential areas in the future, so I will definitely be looking to host another exhibition like this again. It’s a very exciting idea of creating entertainment for the community.”
