Douglasdale Retirement Village residents prove that age is just a number and adventure knows no bounds, as they fulfill their New Year's resolutions.
The residents of Douglasdale Retirement Village (DRV) have started the new year with a bang, ensuring that the grass certainly does not grow under their feet.
As the sun rises in 2025, the village is bustling with activity, with an impressive calendar of events that has all residents eagerly participating.
Barbara Holcroft, from the home, said: “It looks like everyone is taking their New Year’s resolutions seriously, and are certainly doing their best to shake off those extra kilos from all the Christmas mince pies.”

From invigorating water aerobics sessions to lively line dancing classes, DRV residents are embracing an active lifestyle. Twice a week, Alice Hanauer leads enthusiastic participants through their water workouts, proving that fitness can be both fun and refreshing.
“Nothing like a bit of ‘Shakin’ Stevens’ to put some spring in your step,” said Holcroft, highlighting the upbeat atmosphere of these classes.
To add an extra touch of joy and celebration, a delightful high tea event was recently held for residents who have reached the milestone of the ‘Naughty Nineties’.
The affair, complete with elegant treats and surrounded by family and friends, was a heartwarming celebration attended by many.
Yet the residents of DRV prove that age is just a number. Lee Mays, a spirited 80-year-old, showcased her adventurous spirit by zip-lining over the spectacular Graskop Gorge.

“The enthusiasm is contagious, and we’re all thrilled to see so many residents engaging in activities that promote health and happiness. This is just the beginning for us in 2025,” said Holcroft.
