Douglasdale Retirement Village celebrated Easter with a joyful market, and a special 100-year milestone.
Douglasdale Retirement Village (DRV) welcomed the arrival of spring with its annual Easter market, basking in the sunshine and cheerful chatter that filled the air with festivity.
Families and friends of residents came together to enjoy a vibrant selection of goods from local vendors, many of whom are part of the very community they serve.
The market showcased an array of delightful offerings, ensuring there was truly ‘something for everyone’. Savory aromas wafted through the air as visitors lined up to savour the delicious homemade hot cross buns from Belgian bakery, Lovely Loaves.

Meanwhile, the enticing sight of beautifully decorated chocolate bombs, from Delicious Foods, tempted sweet teeth throughout the village. Pet owners were not forgotten, with Beddi Boo presenting a range of delightful Easter treats, especially crafted for furry companions.
Among the festive activities, the market also marked a momentous occasion for resident Audrey Birkenshaw, who celebrated her remarkable 100th birthday.

According to Barbara Holcroft, from the village, the market is an extension of the village’s regular Thursday market, where residents gather to sell their homemade goods and mingle with one another. “It’s a very casual market, and people come along and sell a lot of their home stuff, which is very nice. It’s a nice opportunity for residents, particularly in the apartments, to come and mingle and buy special things. This one is more special, since Easter is virtually here.”

The vibrant atmosphere and sense of togetherness continues as Douglasdale gears up for an Easter Bonnet parade for the Easter weekend. A beloved tradition that further exemplifies the village’s commitment to fostering a lively and engaging environment for all its residents.
