Valentine’s Day brings residents together at Douglasdale Retirement Village
Douglasdale Retirement Village hosted a Valentine's Day market for residents and their loved ones, while providing them an opportunity to connect and find special gifts.

In the spirit of love and connection, Douglasdale Retirement Village (DRV) hosted a special Valentine’s Day market on February 13, providing residents with the perfect opportunity to find unique gifts for their loved ones before Valentine’s Day.
According to Barbara Holcroft, from the village, the market is an extension of the village’s regular Thursday market, where residents gather to sell their homemade goods and mingle with one another.
“It’s a very casual market, and people come along and sell a lot of their home stuff, which is very nice. It’s a nice opportunity for residents, particularly in the apartments, to come and mingle and buy special things.”

The Valentine’s Day market focused on items like jewellery, clothes, perfumes, food, and other small gifts that are perfect for the occasion.
Holcroft explained that the special event is part of the village’s efforts to create a sense of community and connection among residents, particularly during significant holidays like Valentine’s Day.

The village also hosts larger markets throughout the year, including a Christmas market and an upcoming Easter market, which are advertised through posters and open to residents, their families, and friends. These events aim to bring the community together, fostering a sense of belonging and connection among residents.
