Hit-and-run survivor dog finds forever home after losing a leg
After being hit by a car and losing a leg, a dog named Missie has found a loving family and is thriving like never before.
Back in May, 4Paws, a Fourways-based non-profit organisation dedicated to rescuing animals, shared the heartbreaking story of a dog named Missie.
She had been hit by a speeding car in Diepsloot and, despite her injuries, somehow managed to drag herself back to her owner’s home.

Her leg was shattered beyond repair, and she had to undergo amputation. Although her owner could no longer care for her, the team at 4Paws knew she was destined for a brighter future.
Soon after coming into the organisation’s care, Missie found her forever home, a family who saw her not as broken, but as perfect. They welcomed her with open arms and lovingly renamed her Missie.

Today, Missie is thriving. Merinda Brits from 4Paws said she recently scored an impressive 97% in her obedience class and even enjoyed a beach vacation, proving that life after tragedy can be joyful and full of adventure.
“From unwanted to unforgettable, Missie is now living her best life with a family who adores her,” added Brits.
However, the work of the organisation does not stop there. Missie’s story is a testament to resilience and the profound impact that love and care can have on the life of an animal in need.
The organisation appeals to the public to donate so it can rescue even more animals. For more information on adopting or donating to 4Paws, contact 083 377 3219 or email [email protected].
