4Paws steps in after dog suffers chemical burns
4Paws, as usual, stepped in to save Jade after a mistake that nearly cost her life. Now, they’re asking for your support to continue their pawsome work.
A young dog, named Jade, is recovering after suffering severe chemical burns when her owners dipped her in Jeyes Fluid, mistakenly believing it would kill ticks and fleas.
The incident was reported to 4Paws, a non-profit organisation, which took Jade into its care after the toxic disinfectant caused painful skin burns across her body.

According to Meranda Brits, from 4Paws, Jade received immediate veterinary treatment to manage her wounds. Once healed, she was returned for sterilisation, when vets made another alarming discovery.
“On the operating table, they discovered that she has a transmissible venereal tumour, a condition that requires chemo treatments,” Brits explained.
She added that, despite her ordeal, Jade is said to have shown remarkable resilience. “As soon as her chemo treatments are completed, and she has fully recovered, this sweet little girl is going to be looking for her forever home.”
The case has, once again, highlighted the dangers of using household chemicals on animals, and the ongoing need for community support for animal welfare organisations.
“The rescue of this poor dog is a reminder of the cruelty some animals face,” said Brits, “but also serves as a powerful testament to the importance of the vital work we do. But we cannot do this alone.”
4Paws has appealed for donations to help cover medical costs and continue their rescue efforts. To support and contribute to the organisation’s lifesaving work, contact 083 377 3219 or email: merinda@4ourpaws.org.za.
