Hirsch’s Fourways brings holiday magic to children in need with gingerbread decorating sessions

A simple gingerbread cookie is bringing big smiles to little faces as Hirsch’s Fourways welcomes children in need to its festive decorating sessions.

Hirsch’s Fourways has ushered in the festive season with generosity as it hosts a series of gingerbread decorating sessions for children from local charities.

The initiative, led by Michelle Paine, aims to bring joy and creativity to little ones who may otherwise miss out on the magic of Christmas.

Paine said the inspiration came from Hirsch’s commitment to creating spaces where families and children feel welcome. “The festive season should be filled with joy and wonder, but for many children in need, it can be a difficult time.

“A simple activity, like decorating a gingerbread cookie, can bring immense happiness, spark creativity, and make a child feel seen and special. We believe that moments of joy can change a day, and sometimes a life.”

To ensure the right children benefit from the initiative, Hirsch’s partnered with community-focused organisations and passionate individuals deeply involved in charity work.

Paine said the selection process was guided by the need for trusted, hands-on partners. “We agreed to work with charities who have a strong presence in their communities and who focus on caring for children.”

Hirsch’s is collaborating with Mrs SA 2025 top 30 finalists Czar Motsuenyane and Lebo Mfeka, as well as Talitha Oosthuizen, Mrs SA second princess 2025.

“Their passion made choosing the right partners easy. Together, we ensure the right groups of children are reached, and that every child arrives to a warm, festive, safe environment.”

The sessions themselves have been nothing short of enchanting. Children beamed with pride as they decorated their gingerbread creations, while staff and volunteers shared their delight. “The smiles have been endless. It has become the highlight of the season.”

Every session, held across multiple Hirsch’s stores this week and next, is personalised to ensure each child feels celebrated. “Although we run the event multiple times, no two sessions are the same. The aim is always the same though: Make every child feel special.”

Each child receives their own decorating kit, a dedicated space, and warm engagement from staff members. Focusing on children in need was a conscious and heartfelt decision. “Festive time is about giving. A small act of kindness, a cookie, a cup of juice, attention, laughter, can make a holiday unforgettable… A little gift from Santa.

“This is something Hirsch’s holds close to our hearts. Creating warm, joyful moments that make children feel truly special, that’s what the festive season is all about.”
