Fourways Rotary Club’s annual toy drive seeks donations for Christmas
The club is appealing for assistance to bring joy to children this Christmas by donating toys for a good cause.
Christmas is a season of family, laughter, and love, but for some children, especially orphans or those in hospitals, the festive season can feel lonely and challenging. For Steve Margo, from the Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club, this is exactly why he can’t stop thinking about bringing joy to these little ones.
From the goodness of his heart, Margo has made it his mission to extend a helping hand each Christmas. He has done it for 17 years now, since joining the club over two decades ago.
“The laughter and wide-eyed wonder of the kids as they unwrap their gifts, it’s a feeling so wonderful that you can’t shake it off,” he said. “Seeing them smile, even for just a moment, makes all the effort worth it.”

Margo, who is a devoted member of the Fourways Rotary Club, in collaboration with non-profit ExPro, has organised an annual toy drive, donating gifts to children in hospitals, shelters, and orphanages across the region.
ExPro, which supports former football players, has worked alongside the Rotary Club to ensure that these children experience the joy of Christmas.
“We are asking for clean second-hand toys, and if you can afford it, please buy new ones.” The drive has just started, but already Margo has gone one step further; he’s already purchased wrapping paper to ensure each gift looks festive and special.
“Presentation matters. Every child deserves to feel the magic of unwrapping a beautiful gift.”

ExPro players are also hosting a Christmas luncheon, during which they will bring a toy for a boy, girl or unisex toy along as part of the festivities.
More than 100 guests are expected at the event, all united in the goal of making this Christmas unforgettable for the children. “This year, my wish is to raise at least 1 000 toys so that we can reach as many children as possible,” Margo said.

“I love kids; it’s just in my heart to see them happy. Every smile makes it all worthwhile. Also, our values in the club are deeply rooted in serving the community, and that gives me so much joy.”
The toy drive accepts all types of donations from kitchen sets for girls to cars for boys, and unisex toys for all. Donations are packaged carefully, according to age and gender, ensuring each child receives a gift tailored just for them.
Margo also welcomes monetary contributions and sponsorships. Every bit helps to make the Christmas season brighter for children who don’t have it easy.
