Bantamweight contender eyes comeback after loss at EFC 130
After a tough loss to Mlungisi Mbizane, Lucky Magekha is regrouping with fresh determination as the EFC’s move to Cape Town opens a new chapter for his comeback.
Bantamweight contender Lucky Magekha faced one of the toughest tests of his career at EFC 130, where he went three rounds with the experienced Mlungisi Mbizane, ultimately losing via a unanimous decision.
The bout, which took place on December 4 in Paulshof, was a high-paced clash that saw Magekha show grit, heart, and improved discipline, even though the judges’ scorecards didn’t fall in his favour.

Magekha acknowledged the challenge Mbizane presented after the fight. “Mlungisi came prepared, and he fought a smart fight. I won’t make excuses. He was the better man on the night.”
Despite the defeat, Magekha remains positive about his performance, noting the growth he sees in himself every time he steps into the hexagon. “I felt good in there. There were things I wanted to do better, but I stayed composed, and I learned a lot. Losses like this don’t break me, they teach me.”
The young prospect is now turning his focus to his next opportunity, determined to show a sharper and more aggressive version of himself. “I’m already back in training. My next fight, I’m coming back cleaner, faster, and hungrier. I want to remind everyone why I belong in this division.”

He also expressed gratitude to fans and his team for their support.
“Thank you to everyone who believed in me. A loss isn’t the end, it’s part of the journey. I promise I’ll bounce back stronger.”
Magekha says he’s ready to test himself again, especially with the EFC’s competitive landscape evolving. The organisation is shifting more of its events to Cape Town in the new year, marking what many are calling a fresh chapter for African MMA.
“It feels like a new frontier for all of us fighters. New city, new energy, new opportunities. Whether I’m fighting in Johannesburg or Cape Town, I’m ready. I want to make my mark, wherever that hexagon is.”
