Security to be amped up after woman is threatened on Sunset Ave in Lonehill in front of her young son
Security patrols will be increased in Lonehill after a parent was allegedly assaulted while walking with her young son on Sunset Avenue.
Security patrols in Lonehill, and parts of Fourways, will be increased following a reported assault on a parent and her seven-year-old child along Sunset Avenue.
An incident that has renewed concerns about pedestrian safety in the area. Fidelity Services Group has confirmed that it will step up patrols. “[We] will increase patrols in the area and actively participate in any projects to address the root cause of this problem,” said Ian Loubser, general manager of the Estates Division at Fidelity Services Group.

The response follows an incident reported by Lonehill resident Khaya Thwala, who said she was verbally abused, threatened, and physically pushed by a man while walking with her son on Sunset Avenue on January 8.
According to Thwala, the man obstructed the pavement and became aggressive when she questioned his behaviour. She alleged that he pointed tools at her in a threatening manner, pushed her, and repeatedly told her: ‘I know where you stay’.
Passing motorists intervened and physically pulled the man away, while her child attempted to assist her. “This was a frightening and traumatic experience, particularly for a child to witness,” Thwala said in a written complaint circulated to local authorities and the Fourways Review. She added that she had contacted the police at the time of the incident.
Ward 94 councillor David Foley confirmed that a case was opened at the Douglasdale Police Station following the incident and expressed sympathy to the family. “I am very sorry this happened to you in the area. We certainly need to bring the person to face charges, so the word can spread that we mean business.”

Foley acknowledged ongoing challenges along Sunset Avenue, noting the presence of job seekers in the area. He said several joint operations involving SAPS, JMPD, and Home Affairs had been conducted, but that people continued to return.
Foley also encouraged residential complexes in the area to consider joining the Fourways Improvement District (FID) to strengthen visible policing and by-law enforcement. “Imagine the street has extra security personnel that are constantly observing, reporting, and taking the required action to support and protect residents.”
The incident has reignited concerns among residents about safety in public spaces, particularly for pedestrians and families, with calls for sustained law enforcement presence and co-ordinated community safety initiatives.
