Swift collaboration saves woman during domestic violence incident

When Steadfast Guardian Protection guards spotted signs of a domestic assault, their swift action set off a chain of response that protected a woman and led to an arrest.

Last year’s gender-based violence (GBV) awareness campaigns shone a harsh light on a reality South Africa continues to grapple with: Domestic abuse remains widespread, often hidden behind closed doors, and frequently escalates before help arrives.

Despite ongoing advocacy and awareness efforts, many victims still suffer, making rapid intervention and community collaboration critical in saving lives.

That collaboration was put into action on January 19, when Steadfast Guardian Protection, a security company, responded to a domestic violence situation at one of its client sites in Fourways. This was after an alert guard from the company, who was on duty, identified signs of an assault in progress, immediately raising the alarm.

Within minutes, police from Douglasdale Police Station, as well as the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF), responded to the call for assistance.

Through co-ordinated teamwork between private security, emergency response services, and community safety structures, the situation was brought under control.

The alleged perpetrator was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody, ensuring the victim’s immediate safety.

Stead Fast Guardian Protection praised the joint response, highlighting how effective collaboration between role players can make a real difference in moments of crisis.

“When we work together, our communities are safer,” said the company’s Jean-marc Bourgeois, thanking police and the Douglasdale CPF for their swift and professional response.
