Douglasdale launches 16 Days of Activism with united front against GBV

Douglasdale’s fight against gender-based violence moved into full focus, with law enforcement and community partners joining forces in a high-visibility operation along Winnie Mandela Drive.

Douglasdale SAPS, the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Brigade, and the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) launched the 16 Days of Activism Campaign Against Violence Towards Women and Children on November 27, during a coordinated Vehicle Check Point (VCP) along Winnie Mandela Drive.

The morning operation saw CPF volunteers working closely with SAPS members and the GBV Brigade. They engaged extensively with motorists as part of a visible policing and safety-awareness effort.

According to Freda Boiles, CPF’s public relations officer, many drivers at the checkpoint expressed sincere appreciation for the ongoing crime-prevention work within the Douglasdale police precinct.

She noted that the feedback they got reinforces the importance of collaborative safety efforts as the festive season approaches.

“During the VCP, team members handed out festive season safety brochures, information on gender-based violence support services, and emergency contact details. Many valuable items, such as laptops, mobile phones, and handbags, were left in plain sight inside vehicles. Motorists were urged to keep their belongings out of view to reduce the risk of opportunistic crime.”

Boiles emphasised the importance of visibility for the campaign at this time of year. “We appreciate the community’s support and encourage residents to stay alert. We thank Douglasdale SAPS for inviting them to join the operation and for their ongoing commitment to community safety.”
