Carebears and partners spread some Easter joy

Smiles, laughter, and festive cheer filled the air as local organisations came together to create a memorable day for young attendees, complete with games, entertainment, and a special visit that made the celebration unforgettable.

The Carebears, who are residents from Cedar, alongside Sotheby’s International Realty Fourways and the Renew Foundation, hosted a heartwarming Easter celebration for 120 children.

The initiative brought together games, food, music, and festive cheer, creating a day that many of the children will remember long after the Easter weekend. The event was a deliberate act of giving back and creating consistent moments of joy for children in need.

According to Lisa Sukdev, who is also an author of the book, Unlocked, the inspiration behind the initiative is rooted in consistency.

“We are committed to creating kindness and joy. Hosting these children on an ongoing basis and supplying some of their basic needs is an ongoing commitment for us.”

The children participated in a variety of activities, including colouring, singing, dancing, obstacle courses, and a shared lunch. Sukdev said the Easter Bunny made a special appearance, quickly becoming the highlight of the event as children danced, sang, and interacted with excitement and wonder.

“Watching the children’s faces light up, seeing them dancing and singing with the bunny and watching them relish the Easter eggs, it was sheer joy.”

For many of the organisers, the emotional impact of the day was just as significant as it was for the children. The simple act of celebration became a powerful reminder of the importance of presence, care, and community engagement.

“We cannot live in isolation and expect the world to be better. Positive change requires commitment, involvement, and engagement. Responsible members of society share where they can.”

She said the collaboration between the Carebears from Cedar, Sotheby’s International Realty Fourways, and the Renew Foundation reflects a growing movement of community-driven support systems that aim to make a tangible difference in children’s lives.

“We have our Mandela month food collection, our winter blanket drive, and our annual Christmas party and food drive for these children.”
