R3m crystal meth bust in Diepsloot leads to arrest

A 35-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates' Court today following an intelligence-driven drug raid.

A joint operation by law enforcement units led to the recovery of suspected crystal meth worth about R3m on May 31.

The breakthrough came after Counter Narcotics Crime Intelligence, the West Rand Tactical Response Team, and the West Rand K9 unit acted on information regarding two men allegedly dealing drugs in the area.

During a search of the identified premises, officers discovered a black refuse bag hidden under a mattress. The bag contained roughly 10kg of the suspected illicit substance.

A 35-year-old man found at the scene was arrested for possession of drugs and is scheduled to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on June 1.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, commended the team’s dedication to cleaning up local communities.

“We remain committed to removing drugs from our streets and holding those responsible accountable,” Mthombeni stated, emphasising that drug peddling will not be tolerated in the province.
