Douglasdale SAPS successfully apprehended two suspects following a dramatic car chase and foot pursuit in Cosmo City on February 3, after receiving reports of a vehicle robbery in the Douglasdale area.
According to Brigadier Veeshani Arikum, the station commander, the incident began around 15:00, when information was received that a white Toyota Etios was involved in a robbery. “Our members immediately activated a search and managed to track the vehicle into Cosmo City, working closely with colleagues from both Douglasdale and Cosmo City SAPS.”
As the suspects were cornered, they abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. A police helicopter was deployed to assist in the pursuit, leading to the arrest of two individuals. “During the arrest, the suspects were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.”

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle’s owner had been hijacked and dropped in Olivenhoudbosch. Members from Olivehoudbosch SAPS were instrumental in safely bringing the victim to the Cosmo City SAPS station. “The suspects will face charges of hijacking, kidnapping, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
“I would like to thank the member of the community for his vigilance, as well as our officers for their swift and co-ordinated response. This arrest highlights the importance of community co-operation in ensuring public safety.”
Both suspects appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court following their arrest. Arikum said that Douglasdale SAPS continues to make significant arrests for a range of crimes, including robbery, possession of stolen property, assault, and possession of drugs. “Our officers remain committed to combating crime in all its forms and ensuring the safety of our community.”
