Hundreds gather for thrilling finals as Johannesburg’s favourite padel league crowns its season 13 champions in style.

More than 200 players, family members and supporters packed the venue, creating an electric atmosphere that lasted until the final points were decided in the afternoon. With 15 divisions in action, including eight open, four mixed and three ladies categories, the day showcased the depth of talent and friendly rivalry that has become the hallmark of DTL events.

Organisers pulled out all the stops to make it a true family festival. A DJ kept the energy high, while children enjoyed face painting, gel-blaster games, and dedicated activities. Activations from Nasty ENRG added to the lively vibe, ensuring the event was as much about fun and togetherness as it was about competition.

The standard of play was impressively high, with many finals going the distance in hard-fought three-set battles. This reflected the growth players have shown throughout the season, both in skill and in the strong friendships built along the way.

“While we celebrate the champions, the real success of DTL is seeing players improve their game, build friendships, and become part of a community,” said DTL founder Stephen Castle. “The finals day showed exactly what DTL is about: competitive matches, great people, families supporting from the sidelines, and a genuine love for the sport.”

A standout performer was veteran player Derek Huntley, a 75-year-old, who defied the odds by reaching an incredible three finals against much younger opponents. His achievement was widely praised as a shining example of the league’s inclusive spirit, proving that passion for padel truly has no age limit.

Since its launch, DTL has carved out a special place in Johannesburg’s growing padel scene by balancing serious competition with a warm, welcoming environment for players of all levels. The success of season 13 has set a strong foundation for continued expansion.

Attention now turns to season 14, with registrations already open. Organisers are expecting another big turnout as the league keeps growing its divisions and footprint across the region.
