Apex South-based mixed martial arts contender is ready for his title shot

Local MMA star Ayanda Zwane promises a sharper, smarter performance against dangerous Nerik Simões on July 2.

South African mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Ayanda Zwane is fired up, and ready to make a major statement when he steps into the EFC cage against Nerik Simões on July 2.

In a recent interview, the Apex South-based contender expressed excitement about facing a tough, hungry opponent on a big platform, calling it the perfect opportunity to showcase why he belongs among the division’s elite. “I’m very excited. This is the kind of fight I want, a tough opponent, a big platform, and another chance to show why I belong at the top of this division. Nerik looks like someone who comes to fight, and that caught my attention. I respect that, but on July 2, I’m coming to make a statement.”

Zwane highlighted Simões’ willingness to engage as his biggest strength, but believes his team has identified clear areas to exploit. His preparation has been comprehensive and purposeful, covering striking, wrestling, grappling, conditioning, and mental focus. He reflected on a previous split-decision victory. “That fight taught me that winning is important, but dominance is the goal. A split decision means I got the win, but I still left room for doubt, and I don’t want that again. This camp has been about being cleaner, sharper, and more aggressive with purpose.”

Zwane emphasised his versatility and desire for a finish, while remaining disciplined. “I’m always looking for the finish, that’s the fighter I am, but I’m not going to rush and make emotional mistakes. If the finish comes, I’m taking it. If it goes the distance, I’m ready to win every round and make sure there’s no doubt.”

He also acknowledged the challenge of facing a motivated opponent, but backed his experience and improved game plan. “I’ve made adjustments to be more complete, more patient, and more dangerous at the right moments. I don’t want to just fight hard, I want to fight smart.”

Looking beyond July 2, Zwane made his ambitions clear. “Once I get my hand raised, I want what’s next to mean something. This could be the last time people see me in an EFC cage before a title fight, because the next time I step in, I want it to be with the belt on the line.”

He closed with a heartfelt message to supporters. “To my fans, thank you for standing with me. Your support gives me strength. To the South African MMA community, keep watching, because I’m coming to represent with pride.”

Local fight fans can expect a high-level, action-packed contest as Zwane looks to take another step toward championship gold.
