Family remembers Fourways fitness instructor whose tragic death left loved ones shattered

After days of searching for missing Fourways fitness instructor Leah Moumakoa, her family was faced with the devastating task of identifying her body.

The family of Leah Moumakoa is still trying to come to terms with the devastating loss of the beloved fitness instructor and community volunteer, whose death has left loved ones emotionally shattered.

The 44-year-old, who worked as a personal trainer at Cedar Square, was recently reported missing before she was later found dead following an alleged hit-and-run in Randburg.

Her niece, Kamogelo Moumakoa, said the family’s hope of finding Leah alive was replaced with unimaginable heartbreak.

“We searched everywhere for her, praying that she would come home safely. Instead, we were faced with the painful reality of identifying her body. It is something no family should ever have to experience.”

Moumakoa said the emotional trauma has taken a heavy toll on the family.

“The loss has affected all of us deeply.

My grandmother’s blood pressure became dangerously high because of the shock, and my mom had to be admitted to a wellness centre after the emotional trauma of searching for her, and later identifying her body in a very traumatic state. She now depends on sleeping pills to get some rest.”

She added that the family is seeking professional grief counselling as they try to cope with the sudden loss.

Outside the gym, Leah devoted much of her time to community work, mentoring and encouraging young people in Orange Farm and the Vaal through various upliftment initiatives.

“She believed in giving back. Whether it was through fitness or community work, she always made time for people and wanted to make a difference in their lives.”

Moumakoa said her aunt’s kindness, generosity, and vibrant personality touched countless lives. “She leaves behind a huge void in our family, and although she had no children of her own, she left behind her beloved dog, Naledi.

“She was more than an aunt to us. She was a source of strength, love, and encouragement. We know many people will remember her, not only for what she did, but for the way she made them feel.

“Her legacy lives on in every life she touched. We want people to remember her smile, her compassion, and the love she gave so freely.”

Randburg police confirmed they are currently investigating the case, but no further details about the incident have been released yet.
