Still no answers from Gauteng roads department over malfunctioning Montecasino traffic lights

Outsurance pointsmen continue to direct traffic with the Gauteng Roads and Transport Department yet to respond.

Motorists travelling through the intersection of Winnie Mandela Drive, Kingfisher Drive and Montecasino Boulevard continue to face severe traffic congestion as uncertainty remains over which authority is responsible for repairing the faulty traffic lights.

The traffic signals have been out of operation for months, forcing Outsurance postmen to direct vehicles during peak hours while frustrated commuters endure lengthy delays.

Ward 94 councillor David Foley said the prolonged outage has significantly affected residents travelling between Fourways and Sandton.

“It has been at least two to three months, causing massive delays and impacting the time it takes to travel to Sandton from the Fourways area. It’s very bad. That is one of many issues affecting provincial roads.”

Following the publication of Fourways Review’s initial report, motorists had hoped the issue would be resolved. Instead, responses from the relevant authorities have revealed conflicting accounts over who is responsible for maintaining the intersection.

Fourways Review contacted the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport on June 29.

King Mthombeni from the roads department said he had escalated our media enquiry to their chief director Herbert Phahlane.

JRA’s Mosa Makhalima clarified that the intersection belongs to the province and not the roads agency.
