Unity College, in collaboration with Da Capo Barista Academy, hosted a Latte Art Throwdown competition on August 27, bringing together seven schools for a day of creativity and skill.

“The event welcomed learners from Unity College Special Needs School, Randeor School, The Hamlet School, Isisipho Sethu LSEN School, Unica School, Con Amore School, and Zimeleni LSEN School,” Carina Engles, lead teacher for the senior phase, said, “to showcase their developing barista skills.”
Engles explained that the platform allowed learners to demonstrate their abilities, build confidence, and compete with their peers. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, laughter, and plenty of enthusiasm as participants put their skills to the test.

After an exciting competition, Con Amore School took first place, followed by The Hamlet School in second place and Randeor School in third place. Unity College extended a heartfelt thank you to sponsors and supporters who helped make the event possible: Data Management Professionals South Africa and Iniel Dreyer, Coalition Coffee and Roy Faurie, Jozi Java and Chris Neumann, Zarmi Hannes and SPAR Eagle Canyon.

Their support played an important role in creating a memorable and meaningful experience for all the participating schools, Engles said.

The Latte Art Throwdown celebrated talent, opportunity and inclusion, with Unity College expressing pride in every learner who took part. The event demonstrated that with the right opportunities and support, learners can develop their skills, discover their talents and shine.
