Petervale pub hands raised money to Diepsloot non-profit
An annual Christmas in July event at a local eatery has provided a vital financial boost for an educational organisation recovering from a burglary.
A charity raffle at The Old Rose Pub & Restaurant in Petervale has raised R15 000 for Khensani’s Collection, an organisation providing educational support in Diepsloot since 2015.
The money was handed over to Khensani’s Collections today, helping to offer a financial boost after a burglary that left the organisation’s kitchen without essential equipment.

Hilton Tarrant, who is associated with the restaurant, said the donation was raised during the annual Christmas in July celebration, which brought guests together for a festive meal, Christmas crackers and a charity raffle.
The event attracted about 100 guests, with raffle tickets sold for R20 each. “We managed to raise R6 000. Then we said we would match that, so it goes to 12, and then, because we’re nice, we’re going to round it to 15,” Tarrant said.
The restaurant also invited local businesses to contribute prizes, vouchers and giveaways to the raffle, allowing more people to support the chosen cause.

“That’s also a multiplying effect in itself, because that business is not necessarily in a position to make a contribution of R10 000 or whatever,” he added.
Tarrant said the restaurant changes the beneficiary of its annual charity raffle each year, often choosing causes based on recommendations from patrons who know of a community need.
He also indicated that the team would consider making a separate contribution towards the upcoming children’s Christmas celebration.
