Rescue animals steal the show at Fourways Crossing community event
Four-legged friends, veterinary services and a community market came together for a day with one purpose: giving rescue animals another chance.
Rescue animals got a chance to meet potential new families as Fourways residents gathered at Fourways Crossing Bark Park on October 31 for a community day supporting Woodrock Animal Rescue.
The event, organised by Rachel Smith of Smith’s Collection, brought together animal lovers, local vendors and rescue workers for a day focused on adoption, animal welfare and raising support for the organisation.

Visitors had the opportunity to meet puppies and other rescue animals looking for homes, learn about adoption and support the cause through a market featuring various vendors.
Woodrock Animal Rescue’s Jacqui ‘Jax’ Martheze said the day also provided an opportunity for pet owners to access basic veterinary services. “We have a medical table. This is where we get all the dogs to be nice and healthy.”
The services included basic medical care, vaccinations, deworming, and microchipping. Martheze also reminded pet owners about the importance of microchipping their animals, particularly with the holiday season approaching.
“Anyone who’s going around on holiday wants to make sure your animals are microchipped and registered.”
The event also featured virtual adoptions, giving people another way to support animals looking for homes, even if they could not physically adopt.

Smith previously said her love for animals and her experience as a dog owner inspired her to organise the event. She wanted to create an opportunity for rescue animals to interact with potential families rather than simply raise awareness about their plight.
She also encouraged visitors to consider adoption carefully, reminding them that rescue animals needed patience, safety and a loving environment.
Those unable to adopt could still contribute by donating, volunteering, supporting market vendors or spreading the word about animals needing homes.
With the festive season approaching, Martheze said Woodrock needed continued support from the community to keep its work going.
“Support, support, support. We are so excited, and this time of the year, who do we need? You know it, we need you guys.”
