Live update: Councillor Rufus Maswazi encourages voters to prepare for the heat
Councillor Rufus Maswazi has urged residents heading to voting stations to take precautions against the rising midday temperatures, advising them to bring umbrellas, apply sunscreen and carry water while waiting in queues.
Maswazi said conditions were more manageable earlier in the morning, but the heat was expected to intensify as the day progressed.
He encouraged voters to come prepared so they could remain comfortable in the queues and avoid leaving before casting their votes. “We still want people to vote, so they must make sure they bring these essentials,” he said.
He added that queues were moving steadily, with voters spending approximately 10 minutes at voting stations. According to Maswazi, operations at Dainfern College were running smoothly, with no reported issues. He also reported a positive situation at Grace Bible Church and in Broadacres.
At the time of the update, he was in Lionpride monitoring voting activities.

He said the IEC was ready when voting began, with officials and party agents working together to assist voters, particularly elderly residents and pensioners who may need additional support. “So far, turnout looks good, turnout looks positive, and we’re very excited that people are going to make their mark in this election,” he said.
Delport added that there had been no major challenges reported, with ballot papers and pens available and the voting process running smoothly.
He said the ward executive was working alongside other party agents and the IEC to ensure the election was free, fair and accountable.

Ayanda Ntshingila, from Fourways Review, is on the ground at Norscot Manor, where she spoke to Ward 106 councillor and Democratic Alliance candidate Chris Santana about the voting process and the challenges experienced during the morning.
Almost two hours into voting, Santana described the start as hectic, with efforts underway to organise queues and ensure voters are directed to the correct voting streams.
Norscot Manor is a relatively large voting station, serving approximately 7 500 registered voters across seven streams.
Santana said the main challenge was managing the queues, as voters were initially being directed to the top of the building, creating confusion and congestion.
He said he had been trying to get the queues organised from the bottom of the building so that voters could be directed to the correct areas rather than having to move around or turn back after joining the wrong queue.
Santana added that the intention was to make the voting experience as quick and convenient as possible, with a target of keeping waiting times to no longer than 15 minutes once the queues had been sorted out.
He also said he had not yet confirmed whether all the ballot papers were available, as his immediate priority was addressing the queue-management challenges.
Despite the hectic start, Santana welcomed the turnout, saying it was encouraging to see residents coming out to exercise their democratic right.
Fourways Review will continue bringing you updates from voting stations across the area.

Residents across Fourways and surrounding communities head to the polls today, with voting stations open across wards 93, 94, 96, 106, 115, and 132.
The elections give voters a chance to choose the councillors who will represent their communities and influence decisions on municipal services, infrastructure and the use of public funds. Voting stations are scheduled to open at 07:00 and close at 21:00.
Voters must cast their ballots at the voting station where they are registered and should bring a valid South African identity document, such as a smart ID card, green barcoded ID book or temporary identity certificate.
