Help build Ark’s puppy shelter
CHARTWELL - Ark Animal Centre is building their new puppy shelter one brick at a time, and the community can lend a hand.
With its recent move to its new venue on Cedar Road, the puppy rescue shelter needs to build a new puppy shelter for its young pups.
While animal lovers may not know how to physically build, the centre’s staff are hoping the community will contribute to its Buy-A-Brick campaign.
Social media manager and fundraiser for the centre, Candice Eilertsen said, “We are hoping to sell 40 000 bricks in order to raise enough funds to build our puppy shelter. We do not believe in begging and always try to give as much as we receive, hence why we are building a ‘wall of fame’ which we are calling the Archangel Wall of Honour. Each individual or company that buys a brick or bricks will have their name put on the wall.” Visitors for years to come will view the wall.
For R50, community members can buy one brick and have their names inscribed on the wall, For R2 500, the community will buy 50 bricks and have their names and logo on the wall, and for R25 000 the community will buy 500 bricks and have their banner on the wall.
Eilertsen said the community’s help was vital for previous fundraisers, such as the Bikini Car Wash, Barnyard Theatre events and quiz evenings have raised enough funds for the centre to build a shelter for older puppies, which is almost complete.
She said as the centre caters for puppies and pregnant dogs, specific elements were needed in a young puppy shelter which dog shelters did not necessarily have.
“Puppies are very difficult to deal with because of all the diseases they are susceptible to at such a young age. We deal with these diseases on a daily basis, therefore our biggest issue at the moment is that the facilities we have do not cater to our requirements. Our highest priorities for this shelter are drainage, quarantine, medical, cleanliness, heating and easy access into kennels,” said Eilertsen.
The centre’s staff are excited about their new campaign and are hoping the community will be too.
