A bird lovers dream
FOURWAYS - Two birding enthusiasts, Fourways resident Sue Oertli and her brother Peter Sharland are travelling to Botswana and Caprivi with two British tourists to photograph the waders species.

I am a birding enthusiast and my brother met the British bird watchers Rick and Elis Simpson while on a bird watching trip to South America in December 2011,” said Oertli.
“Rick Simpson is a professional bird guide and his wife Elis does all the bird photography involved in their wader quest initiative.”
On 3 September Oertli and her brother will hold a talk in the hope of raising awareness about diminishing wader populations and threats to the world’s flyways. The talk will be held at the Delta Park Environmental Centre at 7.30pm.
Oertli said the talk would also help raise money for the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust captive breeding programme of the spoon-billed sandpiper.
She said some of the 26 waders species of birds could be seen in the Fourways, Randburg and Sandton areas while others could only be found in Botswana and Namibia.
