Fourways fugitive caught in Brazil
LONEHILL - After stabbing his girlfriend 14 times at an estate in Lonehill in 2011, Gerhard Jansen van Vuuren was a wanted man.
After failing to attend a hearing at Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on 20 May this year, a warrant for his arrest was issued.
According to Beeld, his mother said he disappeared the weekend before that date and she had phoned police regularly for updates on the whereabouts of her son.
Police believe Jansen van Vuuren was able to buy a false passport, which he used to escape to Brazil.
He was arrested in Rio de Janeiro in late August.
It is still unsure how long it will take to extradite him to South Africa.
